Jim Hagedon and Jim Oakes (pictured) of Heritage Highlands founding members ot a volunteer patrol now monitoring Dove Mountain as additional eyes and ears for the Marana Police Department. The program is made possible through the federal Volunteers in Police Service Program (VIPS) created in the aftermath of the 911 terrorist attacks in conjunction with increased Homeland Security. The program is Marana's first, although not new to Arizona retirement communities. Volunteer civilians serve in nearby Sun City Vistoso and in the Sun Cities northwest of Phoenix. Sun Flower in Marana is also has a similar program modeled after the one now up and running at Dove Mountain.
